Project Engineer

Position Summary               

The Project Engineer is responsible for the actual construction of a building project for the company.  This person should direct and coordinate all the activities to be done so the construction project is up to customer expectations.

The Project Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day decisions regarding the project, particularly the supervision of all field construction that includes its organization, planning, compliance with established schedule and budget, and the enforcement of quality control and safety measures.  The leadership provided by the Project Engineer will contribute substantially to the on-time/on-budget completion of work.

The Project Engineer must develop and implement site planning, logistics and procedures for the execution of work; develop and implement quality assurance and control procedures; ensure the work performed complies with all requirements of the contract document and specifications, and verify compliance with established work schedules identifying activities in the critical path including the coordination of scheduled critical materials and equipment for their timely delivery on site.

The Project Engineer is required to document all of the project's information regarding status, compliance or non–compliance with schedule and budget, progress reports, situations and problems, and possible changes to scope using DDD Group's established procedures and forms.

Primary Duties


  • Monitor progress schedule and establish weekly milestones for field personnel and sub-contractors using field meting minutes with "ball in court" issues and dates.

  • Plan all work activities with sub-contractors and ensure a coherent and logical work schedule.

  • Report % Completed in Schedule on a weekly basis.

  • Suggest field logic changes (What if Scenarios)


  • Conduct weekly subcontractor meetings.  Present a Meeting Minute for every meeting for proper filing so it is available for future reference, two (2) days after the meeting at most.

  • Conduct bi-weekly owner's meetings.  Present a Meeting Minute for every meeting for proper filing so it is available for future reference, two (2) days after the meeting at most.

  • Document daily activities progress and conditions using the pre-established Daily Report forms on a daily basis.

  • Daily inspection of project to ensure on-time deliveries.

  • Maintain weekly project pictures of all work done on site, and make sure these pictures are constantly uploaded on the Company Portal.

  • Advise on estimate precision.

Field Operations

  • Supervise DDD personnel and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project drawings' specifications and Schedule.


  • Request on-time requisitions of materials and or resources, using the established Work Order procedures, in order to maintain proper documentation and coding of work to be done, if within budget.

  • Supervise and coordinate deliveries to meet project needs using provided material and deliveries requisitions.

  • Prepare and report all miscellaneous expenses reports, including purchases made with Cash, Petty Cash and/or American Express.

  • Recover, approve and deliver to the Project Accounting Clerk on weekly basis all original documents for proper processing.  (Invoices, certifications, reports, receipts)

Inventory Control

  • Control material deliveries, approve receipts and notify to suppliers and central office of any problems encountered with any deliveries.  All these communications should be done in writing.

  • Supervise and ensure proper on-site inventory.

Quality Control

  • Supervise and ensure all work done by subcontractors meet or exceed quality standards.

  • To ensure all documentation to be sent to the Central Office complies with company regulations.

  • Request maintenance services to equipment department

  • Document equipment failure, damage, loss or status

Secondary Duties

  • Revise and approve [Field Verification] initial break down for payment for all subcontractor certifications for payment to check for compliance and ensure on time delivery to the Project Accounting Clerk.

Key Responsibilities


  • It is the Project Engineer's responsibility to ensure that work is executed as per the established schedule and identify any critical path activity that may affect the project.
  • Monitor work schedules on a daily basis to be able to raise red flags on time and take appropriate corrective actions in order to avoid any delays in future work.  It is the responsibility of the Project Engineer to maintain the project schedule on time and inform the Senior Project Manager immediately of any situation that may affect the project adversely.  The Project Engineer will update the project schedule in Primavera P6 on a weekly basis.
  • Plan all work activities with the subcontractor's representatives to maintain a coherent and logical work schedule, and to avoid interference between the different subcontractor's work activities.  The Project Engineer will supervise these activities by directing the subcontractor's foreman or representative. It is also the Project Engineer's responsibility to plan all of DDD Group's crew work activities.  It is important that work activities are planned in such a way that a safe work environment is maintained at all times.
  • Supervise and monitor the work performed by the different subcontractors to ensure their compliance with the contract schedule.  The Project Engineer will monitor the staffing levels and productivity for the various subcontractors to maintain the logistic of the required activities and avoid interruption in the project's progress.  Non-compliance by any subcontractor must be addressed immediately and reported to the Senior Project Manager.


  • The Project Engineer is responsible for tracking and monitoring the project's established budget and cash flow by maintaining an accurate inventory of the materials and resources (equipment & labor) needed and used on the project.  The Project Engineer must inform the Senior Project Manager of any expected changes to the established quantities with enough time to be able to make the appropriate adjustments and/or changes to the budget.
  • On time requisition of materials and resources needed so that the progress of the project is not affected
  • Coordinate the delivery of such materials and resources so that it is received when needed.  A too-early delivery might bring cash flow / storage problems, a too-late delivery might delay the progress of the project.
  • Verify all materials and resources received on-site, against a PO or receipt, for quantity and specifications. 
  • Coordinate the installation and use of materials and equipment to prevent misuse, theft, damage and/or shortage.  The theft and damage of any material or equipment must be reported to the Senior Project Manager immediately.
  • The Project Engineer must revise and approve the subcontractor's certifications for payment before sending them to the Senior Project Manager.  It is the Project Engineer's responsibility to verify work done against work certified.  It is important that the Project Engineer send all invoices regarding his project to the Accounting Department on a weekly basis for proper revision and payment process.
  • An accurate on-site inventory and the proper coordination of the materials and resources needed and/or used will help in the successful tracking and management of the project's budget.

Quality Control

  • The Project Engineer's main responsibility regarding quality is to ensure that work is executed as per relevant building codes, contract's specifications, drawings and company's standards; it is our responsibility to deliver a product that complies with the Owner's requirements and expectations, and within the design specifications.
  • Daily inspection of work to verify that it is executed as per contract specifications and drawings.  The Project Engineer must verify quality of work and dimensions daily to be able to raise red flags on time and avoid any delays in future work.  The Project Engineer must take weekly photos of the project's progress and any other picture deemed relevant.
  • Ensure that any required test is performed on time and complies with the quality assurance specified in the contract documents.
  • Whenever a specification or contract drawing is revised, the Project Engineer must verify it to ensure that the corresponding subcontractors are complying with the new instructions.
  • Verify submittals approved by Architect to ensure that materials are installed as per the specifications approved.  It is the Project Engineer's responsibility to verify quality, quantity and method of installation of such materials, and inform the subcontractor of any future work of the quality of the product delivered.
  • Ensure that all company equipment receives proper storage, use and maintenance and report any loss, damage, required service to the equipment division.

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture

  • Professional license required.

  • Member in good standing of the CIAPR / CAAPR


  • Minimum of five (5) years of job related experience.

  • Highly experienced in construction supervision and inspection.

  • Vast knowledge of local building codes and regulations.

  • Knowledgeable of Primavera P6 and Contract Manager Project Control software.
