Design/Construction – BIM / VDC (Virtual Design & Construction) Technician Assistant
FMLA Classification: Exempt
Reports to: VDC Technician – Primary
                      Design Job Captain – Secondary

Position Summary

The VDC Technician Assistant performs a support role to the design and construction project teams with the development of BIM models as well as foresee possible conflicts before, during, and after the construction. This collaborative process with varying tasks and responsibilities will contribute to the overall successful development of the assigned projects. Some of these tasks will include the execution of design and construction modeling, presentations, and 3D renderings, searching and analyzing materials, construction and installation methodologies to comply with project’s requirements. This person assists in obtaining, evaluating and coordinating all information needed to construct the project in accordance with the contract documents through BIM models.

The VDC Technician assistant participates in the strategy, process, modeling and coordination of projects. This person has a thorough knowledge of Building Information Modeling (BIM) computer applications, 3D designs and construction documents. The VDC Technician assistant supports the VDC Technician in the coordination between the construction documents through the BIM modeling and the improvement of the construction process. As VDC Technician assistant, this person will assist in the implementation of VDC strategies throughout the project’s life cycle from predesign to construction to facilities management. As VDC Technician assistant, he or she will work with various departments to understand, advise, and assist in implementing VDC processes.

Objective/Responsibilities

Assists In the Building of 3D models based on provided layouts and sketches using ArchiCAD or Revit.
Assists in BIM coordination, including clash detection.
Supports Pre-Construction, Pre-fabrication and on-site construction teams.
Strategize project related modeling requirements with project team during project kick off.
Assists in communicating with field personnel and MEP Trade Team members.
Attend virtual construction, clash detection and coordination meetings.

Qualifications

The VDC Technician assistant needs to possess both a technical aptitude of BIM Modeling and understanding of the construction process collaborating with various teams. He or she must be able to understand and follow schedules and budgets, construction details and procedures. This position needs the following skills:

Education: Professional Draftsman Degree. Bachelor’s degree in related discipline (Construction Management, Construction Science, Architecture, Engineering Fields, etc.) preferred. 2-year technical degree or 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
License: Professional License not required.
Experience: Minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of related experience. Minimum of 1 yr on construction site.
Software proficiency: In-depth knowledge of current BIM & VDC software: AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, Revit, Sketchup, Solibri. Proficiency in other software: Lumion & Adobe Suite. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel & Power Point.
VDC Experience: Experience with drafting building plans and 3D modeling, often in collaboration with engineers and clients.
VDC Experience:
           o 1 year experience in VDC/BIM implementation.
           o Knowledge of VDC processes in the industry.
           o Actively participate in ongoing strategic initiatives related to VDC/BIM
Schedule Management: Ability to successfully manage time requirements and meet project timelines.
Interdisciplinary knowledge: Knowledge of interdisciplinary informationand coordination.

Primary Duties

Time
     •​Assist in performing all required BIM modeling activities as specified in the        progress schedule to comply with established delivery milestones.
Budget
      ▪Assists in analyzing possible project alternatives that may result in savings on the project.
      ▪Assists in the review progress drawings, as required.
Quality Control
      ▪Assist in creating and reviewing design construction drawings to ensure information is accurate, complete.
      ▪Maintain good relations and communications with all parties involved in the project.
      ▪Assist in verifying construction documents and BIM modeling related to construction to assure compliance and constructability.
      •Able to work on BIM models and presentations to be presented to Clients and/or construction teams.
      •Be able to make preliminary coordination redlines.

Secondary Duties

To assist the executive team in the development of Department Procedures
To assist VP in other tasks.

Deliverables

Assist in creating VDC presentations.
Assist in preparation of BIM model with interdisciplinary input.
Assist in preparation of MEP model.
Clash detection Reports.

Salary Range

Varies with experience, seniority & performance.
